In this opening episode, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Bertold for an open conversation about stations of his life journey and how he was found by constellation work, as he himself describes it. We speak about the experiences through which the work entered his life, how it began to guide him, and what has continued to orient his path over the years.
Part two of a special five-part series with Bertold Ulsamer, author, teacher, and elder in the field of Family Constellations, and a direct student of Bert Hellinger.
In this episode, we talk about couples and relationships—what we carry from our original families, what matters when working with couples, the role of timing, different pacing between partners, and the dynamics shaping relationships today.
Part three of a special five-part series with Bertold Ulsamer—author, teacher, elder in the field of Family Constellations, and a direct student of Bert Hellinger.
We begin this episode with professional success and allow the conversation to unfold naturally—touching on money, family roots, inner voices, responsibility, and what it means to become an adult. Bertold and I explore how family systems shape our relationship to work and money, why people may unconsciously sabotage their own success, and the movement from victimhood into adulthood and responsibility.
The episode also includes a demonstration of a beautiful exercise for integrating two inner voices in conflict, along with reflections on Bertold’s own professional journey.
Part four of a special five-part series with Bertold Ulsamer—author, teacher, and elder in the field of Family Constellations, and a direct student of Bert Hellinger.
This is one of my favorite conversations. I deeply appreciate Bertold’s approach: that in order to serve this work well, we must take care of ourselves and continue doing our own inner work. In this episode, we explore the inner life of the therapist and facilitator—the loneliness that can arise from the role, the risk of burnout, and the deeper roots of these experiences. We speak about what supports us in staying grounded, resourced, and human while holding space for others. If you are a therapist, facilitator, or someone who accompanies others in meaningful work, this conversation is for you.
In this final episode of our five-part series with Bertold Ulsamer—author, teacher, and direct student of Bert Hellinger—we explore one of the central and most intriguing aspects of constellation work.
Bertold shares that he prefers to relate to the Knowing Field as a mystery, as Bert Hellinger originally did. The term “Knowing Field,” later introduced by Albrecht Mahr, offers language for something many facilitators experience but cannot fully explain. What is this phenomenon that seems to hold information beyond the personal story? Is it inside us, or outside us? Do we use it—or is it, in some way, using us? This is a deep conversation, and not an easy concept to explore. Toward the end of our dialogue, Bertold reflects on searching and longing. When we search—for answers, teachers, even gurus—what are we truly seeking? Is it knowledge?
Or is there a deeper longing beneath it, perhaps connected to our parents? This is a thoughtful and honest conversation about staying grounded while engaging with something larger than ourselves.
If you are a therapist, facilitator, or simply curious about what moves beyond the personal in constellation work, this episode is for you.
