Character, Development and Trauma
2011, October 13 – 21 in Freiburg, Germany
The aim of this training is to go through the different layers of how our characters are formed. These layers build the core of our personality and develop primarily up until the age of 4 or 5.
Prenatal and birth experiences are only the beginning …Later we grow, learn and adapt to our parents and our surroundings. Our culture and our upbringing shape what we experience in each state of our childhood. Early shocks and trauma may happen and are quite natural. We all have minor or less minor disturbances on each layer.
Deficits on one level influence the next level. In psychoanalysis and in other therapeutic schools, these structures were often looked at from their negative side. In this seminar, we will focus on what we can do to heal – or to accept - old wounds and to find new ways to be more fully present in our daily lives.
The layers we are dealing with are:
Layer 1: Existence and Contact.
When this level is solved, you feel welcome and well received in the world and your body. You know you have a right to exist. You can connect your mind with your body and feel fulfilment. You can contain and express anger.
Layer 2: Care and Nourishment
When this level is solved, you can ask for nourishment from others and tolerate this abundance. You know how to focus (on yourself and you can find an ideal balance between your own needs and helping others.
Layer 3: Trust and Dependency
When this level is solved, you can allow a healthy dependency on others. You can ask for help and support when you need it. You will be able to trust yourself and others. You can allow mistakes in yourself and others.
Layer 4: Independency and Autonomy
When this level is solved, you can show and express yourself and your truth. You can say „no“ and „I do not want this“. Your ambivalence will dissolve and you can make decisions. You change from “either/or” to having multiple options.
Layer 5: Love and Sexuality
When this level is solved, you can love the same person with your heart as well as your body. There is no separation. You feel you deserve and can ask for love. You can accept yourself and others with imperfections.
Methods:
We will work with family constellations, constellations, constellation rituals and exercises. It is based on the understanding of the trauma work from Peter Levine (Somatic Experiencing).
Participants:
The seminar is highly experiential and is meant for facilitators who want to deepen their competence and their personal experience– limited number of 28
Time:
7 ½ days of training with one day off in between
Starting Thursday, 13.10., 19.30 after the opening dinner, finishing Friday, 21.10., 13.00 with lunch Daily working time around 6 hours: 9.30 – 13.00, 15.00 - 18.30. Friday till Sunday, Tuesday till Friday. Monday, 17.10. will be the day off. You will be given suggestions for excursions on this day.
Fee:
€ 800 Euro (without food and accommodation) (non-refundable booking fee € 150.00 plus tuition € 650.00).
The non-refundable booking fee of € 150.00 is due with your application.
You may cancel your booking up to July 15, 2011. After that date, I will refund any payment less € 150.00 booking fee if I am able to find a replacement person from our waiting list.

Location:
Waldhof, Im Waldhof 16, 79117 Freiburg, Tel. +49-761-6 71 34 www.waldhof-freiburg.de Freiburg is one of the nicest cities in Germany with a famous cathedral and is situated in a beautiful landscape just right at the Black Forest. The location is on the outskirts of Freiburg near the forest. Waldhof is a beautiful but simple place which serves the continuing education. With a 15 minute walk, you will reach the tram which leads you to the centre of Freiburg.
Trainer:
Bertold Ulsamer has a degree in clinical Psychology and holds a PHD in law. Since 1995 he has lead workshops and facilitated trainings in Europe, USA and China. He did the 3-year training with Peter Levine in Trauma work ("Somatic Experiencing"). He is author of "The Healing Power of the Past" (amazon) and "The Art and Craft of Leading Family constellation" and of 7 other books about constellation work. He is leading his second 16-day training for facilitators about trauma and constellations in Italy. This workshop has been developed from one part of this training.
Co-Trainer:
Joyce Schmid has been facilitating constellations for ten years. She has extensive trauma training with Peter Levine in Somatic Experiencing and has worked in various institutions in Switzerland with young adults with psychosis, learning disabilities, perception disabilities and autism. She taught „Trauma and Constellations” in South Africa. She has been working in her own private practice since 1997. Originally from Canada, Joyce immigrated to Switzerland in 1973.

Participants can reach Freiburg by train from Frankfurt or Zurich (2 hours). In Freiburg you can take a taxi (costs around € 15,-)
Fees, payment
The fee for the workshop is € 800.00 (non-refundable booking fee € 150.00 plus tuition € 650.00).
Room and board is extra, depending on your choice of accommodation.
The non-refundable booking fee of € 150.00 is due with your application. Due to the high bank transfer charges you may pay the remainder of the tuition and the fee for room and board in cash on the first day of the training.
